Dry Riesling stakes its claim

Wine Enthusiast · Dezember 2011

2009 Mandelpfad Riesling GG: “Ripe peaches balance quince and citrus, and plenty of wet stone and brine notes backbone and textural richness. Harmony, length and minerality are all here in a wine that’s relatively affordable by Grosses Gewächs standards.” 93/100

2009 Kalkmergel Riesling Spätlese trocken: “Kalkmergel refers to the chalky marl soils, which are said to yield powerful and mineral wines. This is a wonderfully complex example, with scents of musk, quince and brine all combining easily into a knockout aroma. It’s citrusy and fresh, with a long, mouthwatering finish.” 91/100

2009 Steinbuckel Riesling GG: „On the citrusy side of things for the Pfalz, where many of the wines lean toward peachiness. Pineapple and passion fruit notes are accented by hints of stuck flint and a vaguely briny character. Althought only 12.5% abv, the winw is richly textured on the palate, then turning crisp and refreshing on the finish.” 89/100
